CERAMICS BY JAN HOWE
I am interested in telling a story whether it reflects on ancient myths, childhood stories or the simple motility of animals. A fascination of movement, scale and colour, which I aim to portray in my sculptures. The process of making brings exhilaration and merriment to myself and I want this to reflect on the viewer.
I studied art in college from 1975-1977 specializing in stone and wood carving. I then went into education to help provide for my family, and after retiring seven years ago I pursued my calling to creative arts.
Each gesture is a new discovery, learning about the endless possibilities of form, shape and composition. I have always been intrigued by the 3 dimensional form and the transformative aspect, from painting and drawing into sculpture.
The process of making is anticipating, challenging and committing. I am working in clay using multiple techniques and processes and am currently enjoying exhibiting in multiple galleries.
