Turn The Tide On Plastic

The Volvo Ocean Race stopped off in Cardiff for two weeks and caused quite a stir!  We got right behind the ethos and message of the race  -  Clean Seas!

We created a feature window in support of the racing yacht "Turn The Tide on Plastic" showing a blue whale wallowing in a sea of plastic bottles.

Phillip Johnston, in charge of Shore Operations for Volvo Ocean Race Yacht Team,  “Turn The Tide on Plastic” came to visit the shop with his family to see the specially created window.  He and his family loved the window and also had a go at working with glass and making a couple of mementos to remember Leg 9 of this world ocean race.  Phillip said “It is really exciting and shows exactly what local businesses can do to interact with the race and draw people in.”  Phillip returned to the shop and made a great Video highlighting what the Penarth traders are doing to reduce their plastic usage.

We offered the race crew and staff special making worskshops to come and experience working with glass.  We met people from all over the world who had been following the race for the last year.  We were especially happy to welcome Simeon Tienpont the skipper from Akzonobel with his daughter who thoroughly enjoyed making a butterfly window hanger together!
